É dever dos levitas fazer o trabalho na Tenda do Encontro e assumir a responsabilidade pelas ofensas contra ela. Este é um decreto perpétuo pelas suas gerações. Eles não receberão herança alguma entre os israelitas.

Mas os levitas farão o serviço da tenda da revelação, e eles levarão sobre si a sua iniqüidade; pelas vossas gerações estatuto perpétuo será; e no meio dos filhos de Israel nenhuma herança terão.

Numbers 18:23
But the Levites shall do the service of the tent of meeting, and they shall bear their iniquity. It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations, and among the people of Israel they shall have no inheritance.
